Please tell us about yourselves. Has it always been in your plan to get married in Mauritius at Constance Prince Maurice? Tell us more
George and I met around 5 years before getting engaged in the UAE in 2020. We have always loved traveling, especially to tropical destinations so we knew a destination wedding was on the cards, having spoken to my parents who are seasoned travellers to Mauritius, they did a good job at persuading us to consider the island. Coming from the UK originally we struggled to make the legalities work with our time frames and work commitments so we had ruled out a UK wedding in the early stages of engagement. Originally we planned to have a small and intimate ceremony with immediate family only. However, word soon got around that we had set our sights on Mauritius and the guest list expanded from there.

Five reasons why you picked Constance Prince Maurice for your special day?
Firstly, we had spent around 3 months researching the best part of the island to stay in at the time of the year, hotel researching, trip advisor, travel blogs, and Instagram (a lot of Instagram). We originally came across Prince Maurice from an online/paper British newspaper the Telegraph which had rated it in the top 10 hotels on the island which we had used as a base to research. Whenever we travel, we always use the telegraph reviews and it hasn't let us down.
I then chose 3 hotels on the island in different areas (north, south-east and east coast) to narrow down the searches. This is when we got into contact with an independent luxury tour operator (Susie Freeman Travel) who offered us excellent and personalised advice, Susie kindly offered her expertise and listened to what we wanted for the wedding, finally recommending Constance Prince Maurice.

We picked Constance Prince Maurice for
 1) the beauty of the resort
2) the impeccable service and friendliness of staff
3)The food standard is incredibly high
4)the hotel facilities/activities/spa/gym/water-sports
5) the possibility of holding the wedding at the Princely Villa, a private venue within the resort

Tell us about your journey from your country to Mauritius?
Living in Abu Dhabi, we took a 6-hour flight from Dubai which was very easy, our tour operator (Coquille Bonheur/Susie Freeman Travel) was ready for our arrival and picked us up from the airport.

How many guests attended your wedding?
We had 60 guests in total including 1 x 3-year-old and an 8-month-old baby, all flying from around the world including; Egypt, the UK, South Africa and the UAE

How does it feel to say ‘I do’ next to the Ocean?
Saying “I do” next to the ocean was honestly magical, the area we had the ceremony on was secluded with very few onlookers from the rest of the hotel which is something we didn’t want but knew it was a possibility. I think the setting could not have been more perfect and the hotel worked very hard to make it look so aesthetically pleasing and welcoming to all of our guests.

Tell us about the wedding dinner and after party
The after-party was fantastic, straight from the ceremony we had 2 hours of cocktails with a saxophonist playing around the pool; we cut the cake at this point and then went in for the wedding banquet under a bedouin tent. Following a fantastic grill and dessert table, we had Sharp Eleven play the music of our choice, the band really was excellent and had us dancing all night. At around 11:30 everyone jumped in the pool to finish the night off with a bang.

Was the food & drinks up to your expectation? What was on the menu?
The food exceeded our expectations and the drinks were exceptional. George spent a good deal of time with the sommelier, planning something that would work well with the meal and within the budget. Our menu was incredible; we had a plated starter of red snapper tartare and a warm vegetable salad, followed by an extensive live grill with steak, lamb, chicken, prawns, tofu, baked potatoes, grilled vegetable and much more!
For dessert, we had a large selection of chocolate desserts and fruit desserts plus the wedding cake which was beautifully decorated.

The award-winning executive chef and executive pastry chef made sure that all dietary requirements were catered for, and were even present on the night.

Some of the staff, at the end of the holiday/wedding we felt honoured to have met them, the pastry chef who genuinely has incredible skills, the entrecote steak we ate at Archipel restaurant every night, the view from the bedroom which looked out across the pond and through to the mountains, every evening a beautiful sunset with the Lilibet cocktail in hand!

What would you say to someone who is looking to have a tropical wedding?

You cannot go wrong, there is so much more to the wedding than just the day, it’s the few days before and the days after that continue the party and memories that last a lifetime. We have friends and family who said it was the best holiday they had ever been on. There is something very special about being together to celebrate a moment in time, but to be able to spread these celebrations out across 7 days was so wonderful - when do you ever get time like that to spend with your friends and families all together on a tropical island!
