A Different Way to Unwind at Constance Ephelia

Travel Guides

The Seychelles is never short of sea views. But a short paddle from Constance Ephelia leads somewhere greener and quieter: the mangroves of Mahé, beside Port Launay Marine National Park, where the beach gives way to tangled roots and still, shaded water.

It is time outdoors that doesn't feel like exercise, and it may be the part of your stay you talk about longest.

Setting off

The first few minutes are the busiest. A brief introduction, a paddle in your hands, a few uneven strokes while you work out which way the kayak wants to go. Then the resort slips out of sight and your attention turns outwards.

Into the mangroves

From a kayak, you sit just above the waterline, and the landscape rearranges itself around you. Roots arch overhead and disappear below the surface. Branches knit together into a green ceiling. Light breaks into patches on the water and shifts with every stroke.

This is a side of Mahé you won't see from a sun lounger: not the postcard shoreline, but the place where land and sea meet and blur.

What you hear

The soundtrack is as much a part of the experience as the view. The dip of a paddle. Water lapping at the kayak. A rustle in the leaves close by. Conversation tends to drop to a murmur without anyone suggesting it, and the photographs happen when they happen.

Wild wellness, without the workout

Your arms will know you've been paddling, but nobody is counting strokes or chasing a pace. There is no goal beyond the next bend. It's a gentler kind of wellness: fresh air, easy movement and a place you would never have found from the beach.

It also gives your eyes a break from the screen-heavy rhythm of a working week. Out here, there is only the water, the roots and whatever appears around the next corner.

Back on shore

Afterwards, lunch or an easy afternoon on the sand feels well earned without being a reward. For a fuller wind-down, a treatment at Constance Spa is a natural next step.

If you are planning ahead, Constance Ephelia also hosts Wellness Immersion: 3 Days of Renewal from 2–4 November 2026, a small-group programme led by yoga teacher, and cognitive behavioural coach, Frédérique Duchenne-Burckel.

Plan your stay

Mangrove kayaking is available at an additional charge and depends on tide levels, so contact the resort team ahead of your visit to arrange a time.
