“Constance Tekoma, What I Didn’t Know I Needed” – Jaime G
When UK business owners Jaime and Dave Gee needed to truly switch off, they chose Rodrigues, an authentic island gem where time slows down and nature takes centre stage.
Their stay at Constance Tekoma gave them the privacy, tranquillity, and island simplicity they didn’t know they needed.
Jaime describes it best herself. In her own words, she shares what made their time in Rodrigues so unforgettable, from peaceful sunrises to unexpected moments with nature that reminded them how to be fully present again.
What were the most memorable moments of your stay?
"Most mornings, I’d sit on the terrace with a coffee and watch the sunrise over the ocean. No noise. No rush. Just peace.
And one afternoon, a herd of local cows wandered up from the beach and gently grazed outside our window — nature doing what nature does."

Describe the atmosphere or vibe of the resort.
"You know that feeling when you arrive somewhere beautiful and everything just... slows down? That was Constance Tekoma from the very start. It has a laid-back charm that feels a world away from anywhere else.
The team made us feel so welcome and, although discreet, they were always on hand for anything we needed."
What unique aspect of Rodrigues did you love most during your stay?
"Rodrigues is magical. It’s at one with nature, and its laid-back charm makes it a must-visit for anyone who loves finding hidden gems. From the markets in Port Mathurin — with lentils, spices, and homemade rum on offer — to the roadside stalls where women hand-weave beautiful wicker baskets, the local culture and friendly people make Rodrigues an idyllic escape.
For the more energetic, the island offers some amazing hiking trails, and with steady winds and a huge lagoon, it’s ideal for windsurfing and kite-surfing too."

Was there a standout experience?
"One of the most memorable parts of the trip was visiting the François Leguat Giant Tortoise Reserve. The reserve is home to hundreds of tortoises of all shapes, sizes and ages — and each one can be sponsored. Of course, I found the only handicapped tortoise in the sanctuary, who had a deformed shell that looked like a croissant! I named her Wilhelmina — a serene old soul, slowly going about her business. I still receive updates from the Reserve a couple of times a year on how she’s doing, along with photos — it warms my heart every time."
How did you feel when you had to leave?
"We didn’t want to leave! At Constance Tekoma, you’re encouraged to switch off and get back to nature. After such a relaxing and memorable visit, we felt like ourselves again."
If you were to recommend Tekoma to family and friends, what would be the key words you’d use?
"Authentic. Private. Relaxed. Charming. Nature. Rustic."

What feeling or ‘invitation’ do you want readers to be left with?
"If you’re looking to be at one with nature and truly switch off from the fast-paced world we live in, then Constance Tekoma is just the tonic.
The rest of the island moves at a similar pace — markets in Port Mathurin with lentils, spices, and homemade rum, and roadside stalls where women hand-weave beautiful wicker baskets. It’s not polished and that’s exactly the point.
Rodrigues doesn’t try to impress you. It just gently reminds you how to be present. Whether you’re hiking cliffs, flying across the lagoon on a board, or sponsoring a giant tortoise, there’s space here for all of it."
