Constance Moofushi Partners with Mars Sustainable Solutions to Support Coral Conservation

This October, Constance Moofushi rises from the turquoise waters of the South Ari Atoll, taking a bold step forward in the conservation of its coral reefs.

We are honoured to partner with Mars Sustainable Solutions (MSS) to restore more than 100 square metres of coral reef and outplant over 1,500 coral fragments using the Mars Assisted Reef Restoration System (MARRS), a science-based, innovative initiative, developed by MSS.

This collaboration is more than a conservation effort; it symbolises our shared commitment to environmental stewardship. By joining forces, we aim to contribute to the resurgence of coral reefs and safeguard this precious ecosystem that the Maldives relies on for its future.

The MARRS approach employs a groundbreaking method using hexagonal “Reef Stars”, sand-coated steel structures with attached coral fragments to restore degraded reef areas. Since the first Reef Star was planted in 2011, MSS has successfully outplanted over 1.3 million corals across 12 countries, transforming barren rubble fields into thriving marine ecosystems.

Under this approach, our team will be trained to install Reef Stars in a connected and secure web, with the aim of restoring the ecological function of the house reef, giving hope to the future of the Moofushi reef, and allowing the team to expand their efforts in the months to come.

As part of Constance Hotels & Resorts’ 50th anniversary celebration, Constance Moofushi is marking this milestone with meaningful action. The resort will plant 100 Reef Stars, with 50 Reef Stars placed each day over two days, a living tribute to five decades of heartfelt hospitality and our enduring connection to nature.

This partnership reflects Constance Hotels & Resorts’ timeless commitment to sustainability and care. For over five decades, we have believed in nurturing the environments that surround us. Through initiatives like this, we continue to connect our people, our guests, and the ocean in a shared spirit of respect and preservation.
