MCB MAURITIUS LEGENDS

Mouland Fires Stunning 64 to Lead After Day One

Mark Mouland leads the MCB Mauritius Legends by a stroke from Jamie Donaldson, Jeev Milkha Singh, Clark Dennis and Greg Owen after the first round of tournament at Constance Belle Mare Plage.

Wales’ Mark Mouland shot a scintillating eight-under-par 64 to lead the MCB Mauritius Legends after a day of low scoring in the first round of the Legends Tour’s prestigious end-of-season tournament at Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius.

Clark Dennis of the USA, another Welshman Jamie Donaldson, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh and Greg Owen of England are a shot behind on seven under in the Legends Tour’s season finale at the Indian Ocean resort.

Craig Farrelly of England and Swedish pair Johan Edfors and Patrik Sjoland are a stroke further back on six under, with Scott Drummond, Adilson da Silva and Brian Davis on five under.

Scott Hend, the Legends Tour’s 2025 order of merit champion, is alongside Peter Baker – who is seeking a hat-trick of victories in the MCB Mauritius Legends this week on four under, with former Ryder Cup player Stephen Gallacher and ex-MCB Mauritius Legends champion Jarmo Sandelin one back.

Paul McGinley, a former Ryder Cup player and captain, is on one under, as is his 2004 European team-mate Thomas Levet as the leaderboard at Constance Belle Mare Plage has a stacked look to it after day one.

Mouland made three consecutive birdies from the 2nd and picked up further shots at the 7th and 8th on a fine outward nine of 31. Birdies at the 10th, 13th, 16th and the risk-reward 18th followed as he turned for home, with a bogey on the par-four 15th his only blemish.

Donaldson – who holed the winning putt in the 2014 Ryder Cup – made hay on the par fives in his opening round of 65, which included just one dropped shot on the 14th.

He birdied both the three-shot holes on the front nine - at the 4th and 6th – as well as making three on the par-four 2nd and 8th. Then on the back nine after a two at the short 11th he made an eagles on the 13th and picked up his final shot at the three-shot 18th.

Dennis began poorly with a bogey on the 2nd, but bounced back with four birdies in six holes at the end of the front nine. Five more followed on the back nine, although he dropped a shot on the iconic par-3 17th.

Milkha Singh in contrast started superbly, making four birdies in five holes from the 2nd and then picking up another shot at the 9th. Back-to-back birdies at the 15th and 16th gave him a share of second after day one.

Owen was tied for the lead when he boarded the 17th tee before a blemish on the tricky but picturesque par 3 and couldn’t get it back on the gettable closing par 5.

The Englishman had made a rare birdie at the 1st and then eagled the par-five 6th, which he followed with a birdie. He made three threes on the back nine – at the 10th, 12th, 13th and 16th.
