MCB MAURITIUS LEGENDS

Farrelly Leads Heading Into Final Day at the MCB Mauritius Legends

Craig Farrelly leads the MCB Mauritius Legends by a stroke from Greg Owen, Darren Fichardt and Jeev Milkha Singh at Constance Belle Mare Plage. The English rookie has shot two rounds of 66.

Qualifying School graduate Craig Farrelly fired a second successive 66 in the MCB Mauritius Legends to lead the end-of-season event on the Legends Tour at Constance Belle Mare Plage by one stroke with 18 holes to play.

The rookie Englishman leads on 12 under from compatriot Greg Owen, South Africa’s Darren Fichardt and Jeev Milkha Singh of India.

Defending champion Peter Baker, seeking a hat trick of wins in the MCB Mauritius Legends, got himself into contention with a second round of 65, which is seven under par.

Baker sits on a 10 under total, two off the lead, with 2014 Ryder Cup player Stephen Gallacher and the first-round leader Mark Mouland a stroke further behind.

Steve Webster and Andrew Marshall of England plus Bo van Pelt of the USA, India’s Jyoti Randhawa, Patrik Sjoland of Sweden and Brazil’s

Adilson da Silva – who, like Baker, loves the Legends course at Constance Belle Mare place – are on eight under.

Of the chasing pack, order of merit winner Scott Hend of Australia shot 69 to sit on seven under, while Joakim Haeggman of Sweden and Wales’ Jamie Donaldson – who carded a disappointing 73 – are on six under.

Second-round leader Farrelly qualified for the 2025 Legends Tour by topping Stage 1 of the Qualifying School before grabbing the last spot at the final stage, tying for 17th place on five under.

He covered the front nine on Saturday at Constance Belle Mare Plage in just 33 strokes after three consecutive birdies from the 3rd. In fact, that was an opening half score one more than his sensational 32 on day one, when he made five birdies from the 2nd as well as a bogey on the 8th.

Farrelly opened the back nine with a bogey but got it straight back at the 11th, picked up another shot at the 16th and then finished in superb style, finding the final green in two and rolling in the eagle putt that means he leads after two rounds.

Fellow Englishman Owen had much less of a rollercoaster round, making three birdies by the fifth to go out in 33 and then just one more on a placid back nine.

Fichardt, a rookie on the Legends Tour this season, got himself into serious contention for victory in Mauritius with a sparkling 65.

He birdied the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 10th and 13th and matched leader Farrelly’s eagle on the last to ensure he will be in the last group to go off on Sunday (12:00PM).

Milkha Singh started his second round like a train, making birdies on the opening three holes. But that was the only shots he picked up going out and while he added a birdie at the 10th, double bogeys on the 12th and 14th threatened to derail his bid.

However the Indian composed himself and made birdies on the 15th and the 18th to stay in the hunt for more success in Mauritius.

Baker, a Ryder Cup player in 1993, carded a modest opening round of 69 to lie adrift of the leaders but he stormed into the equation with a blemish-free Saturday.

The Englishman made seven birdies, including back to back shots picked up on 17 and 18 to finish, in his terrific 65.

Scotsman Gallacher made a frustration bogey on the last to drop from 11 under to nine under, along side Mouland, who bogeyed the 15th as he failed to match his opening-day heroics when he fired a 64.

Both player remain in the hunt for the MCG Mauritius Legends title in what promises to be a dramatic and unpredictable final day at Constance Belle Mare Plage.
