MCB MAURITIUS LEGENDS
A Perfect Week in Paradise at the 2025 MCB Mauritius Legends
The 2025 edition of the MCB Mauritius Legends at Constance Belle Mare Plage provided memories that will last a lifetime whether you are a Ryder Cup hero or a 22-handicapper.
Former European Tour winner Greg Owen took the main prize – the MCB Mauritius Legends title – but his joy was matched by that of so many others after another week of outstanding golf on the course and wonderful camaraderie off it.

Jamie Donaldson, the man who holed the winning putt in the 2014 Ryder Cup, summed up the experience perfectly.
“I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love Mauritius and it’s no surprise when you consider the weather, the hospitality, the fantastic hotel and the great golf courses we play on,” he said.
“It’s just a fun week and the perfect end to our year on the Legends Tour – and I’m sure all the amateurs who played in the various events loved it as much as the pros do.”
Donaldson shot a closing 66 to finish on 12 under for the event, but that was six shots behind winner Owen, who made a clutch birdie on the 18th hole of Constance Belle Mare Plage’s Legends course to pip Jeev Milkha Singh and Darren Fichardt to the 2025 MCB Mauritius Legends title by a shot. Peter Baker, the defending champion, was fourth in the 14th edition of the MCB Mauritius Legends on 15 under.
However Donaldson led his team to victory in the net competition of the Constance Hotels Pro-Am, with a fine score of 109 alongside Gregory, Etienne and Stephane Koenig.
“Just the best day!” said Gregory. “The event is so well organised. We have played it two years in a row because it is just so much fun. Jamie Donaldson was amazing – we loved him!
“I wasn’t playing my best but he got me through it. What a guy! A great ambassador for the Legends Tour. Jamie ‘Koenig’ Donaldson we called him by the end, because he was playing we me, my brother and my uncle.
“I want this Legends Tour to stay in Mauritius forever! I hope they keep coming back because we just had the best day.”
Greig Hutcheon and his team of Vercamer Gaspar, Beeharry Kamla and Nand Sooredoo were second, two points behind. Johan Edfors alongside Ludmilla Freundl, Christian Friedl and Binda Mannvesh were tied for third on 105 with Jean-Francois Remesy’s team of Angelino Marco, Benjamin Memmi and Jean Michel Ng Tseung.
Edfors and his team were second in the gross competition, but were four adrift of Emanuele Canonica and his team of Silvia Valli, Eleonora De Vargas Masi and Francesco Gallman. Niclas Fasth plus Lawrence Boodhoo, Roshan Koonja and Guillaume Graffeuille were third with 85.
In the MCB Pro-Am, Carlos Belmaseda’s team of Ludmilla Freundl, Christian Friedl and Jean-Francois Merven won the net prize with 107 points. Carl Suneson alongside Veekram Bhunjun, Amal Bhunjun and Sydonie Aldo were second and Jyoti Randhawa with Nicholas Miller, Emma Miller and Vignesh Binda were third.
In the gross category, Belmaseda’s team were joint winners with Euan McIntosh’s quartet of Gregory Montocchio, Anthony Lam and Amaury Desvaux on 90 points. One back were Greg Owen, Remy Desvaux, Guillaume Graffeuille, and Roland Espitalier. In third were Jean-Francois Remesy alongside Stuart McLean, Uwe Bornemeier and Karima Hassam.
“It was such a brilliant day and we were very lucky to have such a great pro in Jean-Francois,” said Hassam. “He was so helpful with my game; I wasn’t driving so well but he was urging me just to relax and give it a go. And I started playing much better!
“I think it helped that the Pro-Am it was after the pros’ event, so they were relaxed as they’d played their big event. It was the best Pro-Am experience I’ve had, in wonderful weather and on a great course with amazing hospitality.”
In the other amateur events, Yannick Merven won the men’s net section of the Constance Amateur Trophy with a score of 77, pipping Daniel D’Arifat with Matthew Balmer in third on 74.
In the gross section, Ludovic Bax took top spot on 71 from Karl Balthasar, with Gabriel Le Court in third one behind.
In the ladies competition, Khiani Schweers took the net prize with an outstanding 78 tally, 10 better than Lene Bojesen with Beatrice D’Arifat in third on 67.
Silvia Valli topped the gross category on 61, one better than Eleonara Masi De Vargas with Beatrice D’Arifat in third.
In the gross senior category of the Constance Amateur Trophy, Ian Espitalier – playing off a 1.9 handicap – took top spot with an aggregate of 71 across the two rounds with Reshad Purdasy (62) second and Uwe Bornemeier (59) third.
In the net category, Roland Espitalier won with 74 points, ahead of Patrick Chui Wan Cheong’s 71 and Purdasy’s 70.
It was another week in the paradise island of Mauritius where new friendships were made and old ones enhanced, and where memories that will last a lifetime were created by all those who competed and stayed at Constance Belle Mare Plage.
The event was another triumph of organisation between various elements who combine their expertise to make the season-ending event on the Legends Tour such an enormous year-on-year success.
Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) and Constance Hotels & Resorts were once again the key partners of the event.
As the main sponsor, Mauritius Commercial Bank remains a valued and longstanding supporter, while Constance Hotels & Resorts proudly provides the venues and hospitality services that elevate the tournament experience.
Its hosting of the event means Constance Hotels & Resorts has positioned Mauritius and the Seychelles as golf destinations and demonstrate the group’s commitment to offering high-quality, luxury experiences as well as excellence in sports and hospitality.
Everyone connected with the event, whether a competitor or organiser, would agree that the 14th edition of the MCB Mauritius Legends Championship was one of the most memorable, whether you were a Ryder Cup legend or an enthusiastic amateur.
