5 Ways to Travel with Purpose at Constance Hotels & Resorts

Travel Guides

Luxury travel is beginning to feel different. Increasingly, it is not defined solely by what a destination offers, but by how deeply it allows travellers to connect with the place around them.

This shift towards more mindful travel does not mean sacrificing comfort or indulgence. It means experiencing them with greater awareness: understanding the ecosystems beyond the beach, discovering where ingredients come from and recognising the work taking place to protect the landscapes that make each journey possible.

Across Constance Hotels & Resorts, this sense of purpose is woven into the Guest experience. From coral restoration in the Maldives to turtle conservation in Seychelles, each initiative offers a different way to engage with the Indian Ocean and leave with more than beautiful memories.

1. Look beneath the surface at Constance Moofushi

Few experiences create a stronger connection with a destination than entering the world beneath its water. In the Maldives, coral reefs are not simply a spectacular setting for diving and snorkelling; they are living ecosystems that support marine life and help protect the islands themselves.

At Constance Moofushi, Guests can discover the reef while learning about the work being undertaken to restore it. In partnership with Mars Sustainable Solutions, the resort has restored more than 100 square metres of coral reef and outplanted over 1,500 coral fragments using the Mars Assisted Reef Restoration System.

The project uses interconnected Reef Stars: sand-coated steel structures carrying coral fragments that are placed across degraded areas of the house reef. One hundred Reef Stars were planted as part of the initiative, with the resort team trained to continue and expand the restoration work.

It brings a new perspective to time spent in the water. A snorkelling experience becomes an opportunity to understand how reefs grow, the threats they face and why their protection matters long after a holiday ends.

2. Encounter wildlife with greater awareness at Constance Lemuria

Seeing wildlife in its natural habitat can be one of travel’s most memorable privileges. Experiencing it responsibly begins with allowing conservation to lead the encounter.

At Constance Lemuria, Grande Anse Kerlan is an important nesting site for sea turtles. The resort’s dedicated Turtle Conservation Programme monitors activity along the beach, protects nesting areas and helps vulnerable hatchlings begin their journey towards the ocean.

Guests may have the opportunity to learn from the resort’s Turtle Manager, join educational experiences or witness hatchlings making their way across the sand during nesting season. These moments are never guaranteed or staged; their significance comes from observing nature on its own terms.

Rather than treating wildlife as something to simply photograph, the programme helps guests understand the care, patience and specialist knowledge required to protect it.

3. Discover the landscapes beyond the beach at Constance Ephelia

The Indian Ocean’s natural richness extends far beyond its reefs. Mangroves, forests and wetlands all play an essential role in supporting wildlife, protecting coastlines and storing carbon.

At Constance Ephelia, conservation focuses partly on the mangrove habitats surrounding the resort. Its mangrove nursery supports the propagation and rehabilitation of the seven species found in the area, while planting activities and educational tours help guests and local students understand their wider importance.

Nature walks offer another way to explore the flora and fauna of Mahé, replacing the temptation to rush between sights with the opportunity to look more closely at one landscape.

The resort’s partnership with local initiative SeyTreasure brings the same thinking into the everyday Guest experience. Plastic collected through beach clean-ups is transformed into handcrafted keepsakes, turning a potential pollutant into something that carries a more meaningful story of Seychelles home.

4. Let local ingredients tell the story at Constance Prince Maurice

Travelling with purpose is also about recognising the relationship between food, community and place. The most memorable meals often begin long before a plate reaches the table, with the people who grow, catch and produce its ingredients.

Across the collection, Constance Hotels & Resorts works to reflect local flavours and traditions within its dining experiences. At Constance Lemuria and Constance Halaveli, relationships with local fishermen support responsible sourcing while giving chefs access to fresh seafood connected to the surrounding waters.

At Constance Prince Maurice, support for the local economy sits alongside water conservation and energy-efficiency measures. Its beekeeping project offers another expression of place, producing honey that guests can discover during their stay.

Choosing local ingredients where possible can shorten supply chains, support livelihoods and introduce Guests to flavours that belong to the destination. It means a meal becomes more than an indulgence; it becomes another way to understand where you are.

5. Look for commitment that lasts beyond the stay

Purposeful travel depends on more than a single visible initiative. It requires hotels to examine how they operate every day, from their use of energy and water to waste, sourcing and relationships with local communities.

Six of our resorts - Constance Moofushi, Constance Halaveli, Constance Ephelia, Constance Lemuria, Constance Belle Mare Plage and Constance Prince Maurice - have achieved Green Globe Platinum Certification.

Platinum status is awarded to properties that have maintained Green Globe Certification for ten consecutive years. It reflects sustained progress across environmental, social and economic areas, supported by annual evaluations rather than a one-off commitment.

The work takes a different form at each resort. Constance Halaveli, has introduced alternatives to single-use plastic and works with Parley to give discarded materials a new purpose. Constance Ephelia, uses glass water bottles, biodegradable materials and an in-house water-bottling plant. Constance Prince Maurice, focuses on water conservation, energy efficiency and partnerships that support the local economy.

Individually, these choices may happen quietly. Together, they help create a model of luxury that feels more thoughtful about the destination in which it exists.

A more meaningful way to experience the Indian Ocean with Constance Hotels & Resorts

Travel with purpose does not ask guests to spend every moment thinking about sustainability. Its value lies in making care for the destination part of the experience itself.

It might mean learning how a coral fragment becomes part of a recovering reef, understanding why a turtle nest must remain undisturbed or discovering the local story behind an ingredient at dinner. These encounters invite guests to look beyond the beauty of the Indian Ocean and recognise the living environments and communities that sustain it.

At Constance Hotels & Resorts, luxury and responsibility are not separate experiences. Together, they offer a richer way to travel: one shaped not only by what guests take away, but by the respect they leave behind.
