The MCB Tour Championship Pro-Am culminated in a grand prize giving in the main bar area, with all the winners being spoilt by sponsors and Constance Belle Mare Plage.
Many of the guests to Constance Belle Mare Plage return each year to play in the Pro-Am. Having an opportunity to play with your golfing hero does not come often. If the excitement and jovial atmosphere at last night’s prize giving ceremony are anything to go by the guests had a fantastic time. Winners for the Pro-Am are divided by a gross and net category, giving all golfers a fair chance to compete. In the net category, the winning team of Dominique Ng Poon Hing, Aline Wong and Vera Fulinova had a runaway victory with a score of 190 points. In the gross category the team of Luca Bolla, Silvia Valli and Margherita Fantoni took the honours with a winning score of 165 points, 10 clear of the next team.
While winners and dignitaries continued celebrating late into the night under the palms, the professionals made a hasty exit. With the MCB Tour Championship starting the following day an early night and final preparation were in order. With play getting under way at 08:00 the field of 65 European Senior Tour Professionals would have an early morning. Early signs are the morning will be sunny with a light breeze, but with the final tee time at 13:00, based on the weather from earlier in the week, conditions through the day may change and, therefore, influence scoring.
The first day of a tournament always holds a certain excitement, with nerves definitely playing a role for some players. The Legend course, with its tight soft fairways and unforgiving bush, holds the answer as to who will emerge victorious come Sunday. The saying goes you can’t win the tournament on day one, but you can certainly lose it!
