The golfing festival is on...
“Truly one of the ultimate golf experiences in the southern hemisphere,” says Colin Montgomerie
of playing at Constance Belle Mare Plage.
European golfing legend, Colin Montgomerie is pleased with the thrill
of playing golf in the middle of the Indian Ocean,
of teeing off amongst beautiful trees just a pitch shot from the sea,
of encountering wildlife and scenery distinct to Mauritius
But the MCB Tour Championship goes beyond that;
a unique blend of professionals and amateurs, a golfing festival centred on two golf courses with unique scenery and lavish cocktails!
It’s entirely possible that this experience is not only the ultimate but unique.
The testing Legend Golf course will determine not only the winner of the
MCB Tour Championship, but the destiny of the tour’s Rookie of the Year race too.
Favourites for that honour are England’s Paul Broadhurst and China’s Lianwei Zhang.
The John Jacobs Trophy, handed to the tour’s number one golfer, is going in only one direction:
Colin Montgomerie will lift it on Sunday evening.
But the big question is: will he also be holding aloft the MCB title?
Having finished sixth on both of his previous visits, our champion is desperate to find the win.
Defending champion Paul Wesselingh, last year’s runner-up Barry Lane, South Africa’s David Frost, plus Broadhurst and Zhang will all fight Montgomerie for the win in the three-round tournament which starts this Friday
And as the professionals concentrate on their goal the amateurs are ready to begin their quest to win the Air Mauritius Trophy, an event which kicks off on Monday morning, with the second round Tuesday and the final round on Saturday.
Both men and women compete, the men in two handicap categories and each division has gross and net competitions.
Round one takes place on the Legend Golf Course, rounds two and three
on the Links.
Rivalry is fierce, but always with a smile so that it is not just the winners who celebrate on Saturday evening.
And in between there is the Constance Hotels Pro-am, a two-round event on Wednesday and Thursday, with a field including all the professionals, many of the amateurs, plus invited guests.
It is the prelude to the big event, a cocktail mix of the entire week, the opportunity for everyone to meet in slightly less competitive surroundings.
The courses are in tip-top condition, the weather is set fair, the resort is as alluring as ever and the players are ready to compete for the trophies.
The ultimate golfing experience- a golf festival- MCB Tour Championship 2015
is ready to begin.
Play well everyone!
