Conquistador and Cocoa in Spain |
 |
Christopher Columbus has been the first European to see
and touch cocoa beans, but at that time he didn’t pay attention
to it and the humble cocoa has been neglected.
In 1519, his fellow explorer, the Spanish Conquistador Don
Hernan Cortes discovers the chocolate which was the drunk
in King Moctezuma ceremony. Gradually the tradition of drinking
chocolate spread across Europe.
However this bitter drink was much more appreciated with honey
and that is how sugar cane (Planted by Spanish people since
the discovery of America) became the cacao essential complement.
